Kim competed on her legendary "The Gray Goose" in Europe and the United States as a member of the US Equestrian Team from 1980 through 1986. In addition to ranking third in the world, Kim and Gray won the United States National Championships Rolex, and came in second at the CCI in Boekelo, Holland.

As head trainer at Magnolias and Snowbirds I have had the opportunity to travel with Kim Walnes as her groom to series of Colonel Carde Clinics held in Warwick NY. (Colonel Carde held the position of Ecuyer at the Cadre Noir in France for twenty years, from 1985 to 1999, he was National Equestrian Team coach for France.) At the clinics I had the opportunity to witness the difference between "Classical Dressage" and "Modern Dressage". A difference that until then was not clear to me.
